Hose Coupling Practical Operation Manual (Tears of Tears Edition)

1. Threaded couplings - The Art of Taping for Experienced Users
Spiral Wrapping:
Wrap against the thread direction (clockwise for left-hand threads)
Overlap 50% like a bandage, wrap 3.5 turns → One less turn will leak, one more turn will break the thread
Hand-tighten until it stops, then wrench:
Tighten until it stops → Use a wrench to add 1/4 turn (aluminum coupling) or 1/2 turn (steel coupling)
Do not force tighten! Thermal expansion and contraction allow for flexibility.
2. Cam lock coupling – 3-second quick fix
Three clicks during insertion:
Push the male and female couplings to the floor → "click" (teeth engage the grooves)
Press the cam past dead center → "click" (self-locking)
Pull back on the hose → "hum" (gasket secures)
Unlocking life-saving technique:
Step on the tube → Pry the cam vertically upwards (pushing diagonally will break the teeth)
3. Quick insertion with a snap-on coupling – One-handed technique
Insert and listen for sound:
Insert the tube to the floor → "click" (spring-loaded latch engages)
No sound? Remove the tube to check for rusted latch.
Tube removal trick:
Press the clamp to the floor with your thumb → Kick the tube with your other hand (forced removal damages the latch)
4. Flange coupling – Bolt life and death
Bolt cross purgatory:
Pretighten diagonally → finger-tight
Wrench cross sequence (1→3→2→4)
Increase force incrementally three times → Flange gap disappears
Iron rule for gasket placement:
No grease! High-temperature carbonization oil leaks → Dry-place and align the bolt holes.
5. Barbed Fittings – A Homemade Steelmaking Method
Barb-Driven Method:
Soak the hose opening in hot water → Use a barbed rod with detergent and poke firmly.
Lead the hose opening 5mm beyond the fitting shoulder (to prevent unhooking).
Wire Tie:
Twist the wire crosswise → Twist with pliers until the wire breaks.
